The Land Rover Freelander, which came onto the market 30 years ago, was one of the first compact SUVs – and thanks to its self-supporting body, transverse engines, four-wheel drive and innovative functions such as hill descent control, it was a minor revolution at the time. After 540,000 units, it was over.
Until now. Because at Auto China in Beijing, the Freelander is celebrating its comeback as a Chinese e-SUV – and an independent brand. This is made possible by the Chinese brand Chery.
While Jaguar Land Rover is providing the design, brand DNA and the necessary SUV expertise, Chery is supplying the EV technology, with production taking place in Changshu.
