A brief look back: Hardly any other nation celebrates its national holiday as passionately as France. When 14 July rolls around, everyone pulls out all the stops. Especially the sportsmen. Traditionally, a Frenchman tries to win the Tour de France stage on 14 July. On top of that, this year saw a World Cup semi-final with the Equipe Tricolore as favourites. To cut a long story short: both went spectacularly wrong.

To make up for it, the Grande Nation can console itself with a new status symbol on four wheels: the Élysée N°7 presidential limousine from DS Automobiles.

According to Duden, patriotism refers to ‘(enthusiastic) love for one’s country – a patriotic spirit’. So much for the theoretical definition. In practice, this conjures up images of football fans coming together in excited family groups to cheer on their country during a match. But the special edition of the DS Automobiles N°7 Élysée, created for the French presidency, also reflects the essence of patriotism at its best.

The Élysée Palace’s new official vehicle was unveiled during the celebrations for France’s National Day on 14 July. And because France is, well, France, the ‘Who’s Who’ – or rather, the ‘Qui est Qui’ – of the French supply industry has joined forces to develop and retrofit the vehicle. After all, the ‘Grande’ in the nation’s name has to be earned. Consequently, the armouring and vehicle fit-out were carried out by Centigon in Brittany, the battery comes from ACC in Hauts-de-France, the electric motors are manufactured in Trémery, the suspension was developed in Occitanie and the audio system is supplied by FOCAL® from Lyon.

But of course, that’s not all. The basic structure of the DS Automobiles N°7 has been specially developed for the office of the President – to ensure ideal functionality and maximum safety. Full armour plating: exclusive to presidential use. The extended wheelbase – a full 25 centimetres longer than the standard model – creates even more space in the rear. After all, the presidential entourage should not only travel in comfort, but also have sufficient space to work in this mobile office. And the rear side windows with adjustable tinting ensure the necessary privacy. And back to comfort once more: this has been a core competence of French car manufacturers ever since the revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension of the 1965 DS21. In the N°7 Élysée: the hydropneumatic suspension has been fully adapted for optimal comfort, combined with excellent road holding and high robustness. Bumpy cobbled streets? Emmanuel Macron and his entourage won’t even feel them.

Incidentally, DS Automobiles and the Presidency of the French Republic have been working together for more than 60 years. Since the beginning of the Fifth French Republic, models from the French brand have been part of significant moments in French history: these include General de Gaulle’s DS 19 and the presidential limousine built by Chapron.

And for anyone who wants to feel at least a little bit presidential: the new DS N°7 is set to launch this autumn.
