What happens when Italian tyre art meets British engineering passion? That's right: the result is a super sports car that is not only fast, but also amazingly sustainable. Pirelli has developed three customised tyres for the new McLaren W1 - the P Zero R, the P Zero Trofeo RS and the P Zero Winter 2. What makes them special is that they are made from more than 50 percent recycled and bio-based materials. And because words alone are not enough, the independent Bureau Veritas has also certified the whole thing in accordance with ISO 14021.</p
Of course, the performance is anything but green behind the ears. Together with McLaren, Pirelli integrated the tyres into vehicle development from the very beginning - virtually tested, put through their paces and pushed to the limit on legendary test tracks such as Nardò, Idiada and the icy Pirelli Sottozero Centre in Sweden. The result: maximum precision, whether on tarmac, racetrack or wintry surfaces.</p
The McLaren W1 itself is a statement in carbon fibre and adrenaline: rear-wheel drive, 1,275 hp, 1,340 Nm of torque, from 0 to 300 km/h in under 12.7 seconds - and an electronic lock at 350 km/h. In race mode, the W1 generates around 1,000 kilograms of downforce - so the tyres not only have to keep up, they have to think along with it.</p
With this cooperation, Pirelli shows that sustainability and high performance are no longer opposites. The McLaren W1 impressively proves that even supercars can think green - and still glow red.
