330 GTC: It’s all in the mix

In the 330 GTC, first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966, Ferrari combines existing technical modules and repeated design ideas from other models. The concept is a success – the sales figures speak for themselves.

To describe the 330 GTC as merely a hybrid of the 275 GTB Berlinetta and 330 2+2 Coupé is not enough. Although the road-going sports car shares the chassis with the 275 and the four-liter engine comes from the
330, Pininfarina has created an extremely elegant new body, drawing inspiration from the 500 Superfast at the front and the 275 GTS at the rear. It’s all in the mix: The 330 GTC, built until the end of 1968, was sold around 600 times – a convincing success. Incidentally, while it has been unusual for Ferrari to place the model designation at the rear, Maranello is breaking with tradition here – the “330” at the rear makes it clear to everyone what they are looking at.

Inside, the narrow pillars give the driver an excellent all-round view. The driver holds a three-spoke Nardi wooden steering wheel and looks at two large round instruments for engine and vehicle speed. Six small displays for coolant temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure, as well as fuel level, clock and ammeter complete the dashboard, while teak veneer refines the look. In 1967, Ferrari o‘ers a special body for the 330 GTC to special customers. Only four are built – originally developed for Princess Lilian of Belgium, Princess of Réthy. The 330 is also available as a convertible. Only around 100, with the designation 330 GTS, are ever built.
