At the Cape of Good Rings: the new Audi Q8

The design: sophisticated

The single frame grille in octagon design immediately reveals that this is an Audi - and a confident one at that. The Ingolstadt-based company has consistently eliminated decorative elements in order to make the coupé's appearance even clearer. The modern corporate identity, which now features only two-dimensional rings, makes it a brand ambassador on the move. The model, derivative and technology designation has also been reorganised: it is now located on the B-pillar.

The car: illuminated

New headlights with HD Matrix LED technology and additional laser light provide both perfect illumination of the road and expression. Because: with digital daytime running light signatures, future owners can select one of four individual light signatures via the MMI. At the rear, an LED light strip together with integrated Audi rings connects the digital OLED tail lights across the entire width of the vehicle. The new lighting technology is also intelligent: if other cars approach the stationary Q8 from behind to within less than two metres, all digital OLED segments are activated.

The engines: powerful

In all three performance levels of the Q8, V6 engines work together with a mild hybrid system that is designed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.5 litres per 100 kilometres in customer operation. This is made possible thanks to a lithium-ion battery and a belt starter generator, which supplies the 48-volt main electrical system of the SUV coupé with power. Naturally, recuperation is used when braking, and the Q8 can "sail" for up to 40 seconds between a speed of 55 and 160 kilometres per hour. Well, and then of course there is the SQ8 with V8 engine, which delivers 373 kW (507 hp) and 770 Newton metres of torque.

Chassis and suspension: grippy

We say Audi, they say? Quattro. All 45, 50, 55 and SQ8 variants have the legendary and intelligent all-wheel drive. Just as it should be for a Q. Electronically controlled air suspension is available as an option, as is the optional all-wheel steering. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn up to five degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This reduces the turning circle and improves manoeuvrability. At the same time, you feel more comfort and stability at higher speeds - here the rear wheels turn in the same direction.
