The Art of Ferrari: Homecoming

Enzo Ferrari hardly ever travelled. He spent almost his entire life in the Modena and Maranello area – shuttling between his workshop and his home. That was where he felt most at home. And even today, his spirit is ever-present. Especially in a Ferrari with a naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine.

A Ferrari 12Cilindri rolls through the grounds of the Ferrari factory in Maranello. The street names pay tribute to the great Formula 1 world champions – and to Enzo Ferrari himself. It is rarely completely quiet here at the factory. Yet there are moments when the hustle and bustle dies down a little. On public holidays, for example. And it is precisely then that the spirit of the Commendatore can be felt most clearly.

Just behind the historic factory entrance at the legendary Via Abetone Inferiore 4 in 41053 Maranello, Italy, stands the part of the building where Enzo Ferrari once had his office. He wanted to be able to see and hear every Ferrari leaving or entering the factory through the windows.

The 12Cilindri features a naturally aspirated V12 with a 65° bank angle; its 6,496 cubic centimetres of displacement generate 830 PS and 678 Newton metres of torque. The engine revs up to 9,500 rpm. Its specific power output is 128 PS per litre of displacement. By way of comparison, the very first Ferrari V12 in the 125 S from 1947, with a displacement of just 1.5 litres, achieved a specific power output of 78.7 PS per litre.
