The perfect wave

At Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2027 show, Creative Director Pharrell Williams once again did what he does best: make a splash. Literally. His new collection pays homage to surf culture – complete with a gigantic wave as the runway backdrop.

By definition, a ‘dandy’ is a man who dresses elegantly, attaches great importance to good manners and, through his sense of style, stands out from the crowd. The most famous example in history? Oscar Wilde. And today? Pharrell Williams would stand a good chance of claiming the title.

As creative director, he brings this spirit to the catwalks through his Louis Vuitton collections in ‘The Dandy Experience’. For Spring/Summer 2027, he is expanding the concept and building a bridge to the world of surfing. The result: the globetrotting dandy, caught between the city and the surf.

The shapes, materials and codes of classic surfwear are reinterpreted through Louis Vuitton’s craftsmanship. Vibrant colours, chequerboard patterns and ocean-inspired details pay homage to a culture that brings people together across the globe.

The collection's surf-inspired aesthetic also extended to a silver camper parked beside the runway — a futuristic take on the classic surfer van.

Fittingly, at the show in Paris, not only did a monumental wave sweep through the backdrop, but the soundtrack was also provided by Pharrell Williams himself. Because with all his forays into the world of fashion, one almost forgets: after all, he’s also a musician.
