Hotel Auerhahn: A call for relaxation

The Hotel Auerhahn in the Black Forest shows how tradition can shape the future. Situated in the heart of the ‘Three-Country Corner’, this historic hotel combines nature tourism with modern luxury and the finest culinary delights. Time for a trip to Schluchsee.

The Hotel Auerhahn is built on three pillars: design, cuisine and holistic relaxation. The concept is the brainchild of the hotel’s manager, Marius Tröndle. The fact that this trained chef and experienced hotelier now runs the hotel is down to his family’s long history with the establishment, which began in the 18th century. In the intervening period, from 1900 to 1984, the Auerhahn was under external ownership, before Tröndle’s grandfather bought the building back. Following its restoration, the hotel was let out for 30 years, before Marius Tröndle took over the management in 2021. Since then, he has been continuing his family’s history at the Auerhahn.

Staying overnight at the Auerhahn
Situated between Zurich, Basel and Fribourg, right on the shores of Lake Schluchsee, the atmosphere here is peaceful. The Hotel Auerhahn reflects the prevailing tranquillity of its surroundings in its interior design: an abundance of wood and clean, contemporary lines create a relaxed, warm atmosphere and provide the perfect setting for a few hours of bliss. Nature lovers with an appreciation for luxury will find a haven in its 43 rooms.

Dining at the Auerhahn

The Auerhahn offers the perfect culinary experience for every occasion with two restaurants: Brasserie Barbara serves reimagined classics daily between 12 noon and 8 pm, whilst the Auerhahn restaurant is open for breakfast and evening fine dining. The dishes are characterised by their regional focus, the highest quality ingredients and artisanal precision. Head Chef Yann Bosshammer and Sous Chef Lukas Baumgartner are responsible for the entire culinary offering; we recently spoke to Lukas in spoke at length – about his passion for gastronomy and the influences of his Italian grandfather.

Relax at the Auerhahn
At Schluchsee, visitors can do more than just soak up the relaxing atmosphere of the natural surroundings. The Auerhahn itself also offers an ideal retreat to recharge your batteries and unwind: the 900-square-metre wellness area with freshwater pools, saltwater pools and saunas. Day passes are also available. For those looking for something a bit more active, there’s the on-site fitness area as well as daily yoga and exercise classes.
