Time twister: Omega Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon"

Seeing the dark side of the moon is an incredible privilege. For this, it is also a good idea to make a career as an astronaut. Wearing an Omega Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon"? That's also a privilege. Particularly desirable: the "Apollo 8" edition now presented.

Looking back, 1968 can be seen as a real turning point. Not only on earth, but also in space. Apollo 8 was the first manned flight ever to orbit the moon. Also on board the capsule: The Omega Speedmaster. A highly precise and sturdy tool that the astronauts relied on throughout NASA's lunar campaign. Now Omega is honouring this moment with a new Speedmaster special edition "Dark Side of the Moon".

The tried-and-tested calibre 3869 has been given a laser-cut moon relief on the blackened main plate and bridges. Just like the moon, the movement also has two different sides: The dial side shows the illuminated view of the moon's surface from Earth, while the back of the watch shows the dark side that only astronauts get to see. And the wearers of this special edition. Even better than ever before, by the way: the lunar surface is even better defined thanks to laser engraving and a contrasting surface finish.


Another new feature that we particularly like: the small second hand in the shape of NASA's Saturn V rocket. If you turn the watch - as the name subtly suggests - you can also read "WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE" on the case back. These were the last words that the pilot of the command module, Jim Lovell, addressed to ground control shortly before the Apollo 8 mission disappeared for the first time on the other side of the moon and without radio contact.
