X marks the Spot: "the map gallery" in Berlin

Berlin is the largest gallery venue in Europe. Does it still need another one? Absolutely. Especially one that does things differently. As a salon and extended living room for the makers, "the map gallery" aims to create atmosphere and manifest moods.

It all starts with melancholy. At least in the "the map gallery", which has chosen this theme to kick things off. You could say: That's just right for winter. We say: go there. And find out how the gallery run by Mon Muellerschoen, Andrea von Goetz and Schwanenfließ and Peter Buchberger turns it into energy, creativity and the future. Because here, not only works of art are exhibited, but also lived. Which is to be understood literally: the map gallery is intended to function as a salon in which design pieces and works of art create something new. And that in itself is more than the sum of its parts.

The aim of the creators is to bring out the associative qualities that link certain artists or types of art. In this way, art and design are mixed in unexpected and surprising ways, independent of time and style. The following artists will be taking part in the first exhibition from 18 January: Elisa Breyer, Philipp Fürhofer, Kura Kazunori, Magda Krawcewicz, Felix Muhrhoffer, Anton Peitersen, Charlie Stein, Maria von Thurn und Taxis, Vincent Vandaele, Jorinde Voigt and Björn Weltbrandt Wallbaum.

We put a pin in the map - and set off for Berlin at the weekend.
