Lap of honour at Monza

We don’t know who will win this weekend’s Formula 1 Monza Grand Prix. But what we do know is: In 1975, Clay Regazzoni won his home race in a Ferrari; in the same year, Niki Lauda clinched the Formula 1 drivers’ championship – Ferrari’s first since 1964 – and the first with TAG Heuer as the Scuderia Ferrari’s official timekeeper. Because this called for a celebration, TAG Heuer launched the first ‘Monza’ in 1976.

That was 50 years ago now. So it’s time to celebrate once more. To mark the 2026 Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d’Italia at Monza, the Maison is presenting a limited-edition reissue: the Monza Flyback Chronograph.

This weekend, the Formula 1 circus is stopping off at the place that gave its name to one of TAG Heuer’s most famous watches: from 4 to 6 September, the premier class of motor racing will be competing in the Gran Premio d’Italia at Monza. In 1971, Heuer became the official timekeeper for Scuderia Ferrari, and in 1975 Niki Lauda secured the team’s first drivers’ title since 1964. To celebrate this success, Heuer launched the first Monza in 1976, a chronograph with a distinctly sporty design. Fifty years on, TAG Heuer is launching the Monza Flyback Chronograph, a new limited edition that combines the legacy of the original with modern watchmaking.

The 42-millimetre case is made from forged carbon, a material used in modern motorsport, whose marbled texture makes each piece unique. The black dial, with its red accents, evokes the collection’s historic colours; a black chronograph minute counter is positioned at 3 o’clock, the continuous-running seconds hand at 6 o’clock, and the slanted date window at 9 o’clock. The bezel combines a tachymeter and a pulsometer scale, thus evoking the chronograph’s original function.

The sapphire crystal case back reveals the in-house, COSC-certified TH20-12 calibre with a flyback function, which allows successive time intervals to be measured without stopping the chronograph – a feature that is genuinely useful in motorsport. And the black calfskin strap with red stitching echoes the colour scheme of classic motorsport.

TAG Heuer is producing just 500 numbered examples of the Monza Flyback Chronograph. The watch (reference CR5092.FC8372) is available now.
