More realistic than ever before

Maranello? Most of you will probably be familiar with it thanks to Ferrari. After all, both the factory and the associated racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, are based there. Since 2018, it has also been home to Racing Unleashed, which manufactures its racing simulators in the heart of Italy’s ‘Motor Valley’. The great thing is: we don’t even have to travel that far south to experience them. Munich will do. Because there, at Motorworld, you’ll find one of seven Racing Lounges.

What began as a training tool for professional drivers now captivates millions of people, whether they are amateurs or professionals. Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, for example, is such a big fan that he founded his own team specialising in racing simulations. Yet simulated racing is by no means a new phenomenon: the first racing simulation game, Gran Trak 10 by Atari, was released as early as 1974.

What’s the appeal? It lies in being able to experience driving physics, track behaviour, braking pressure, tyres, set-up and racing situations as realistically as possible. And one company that is taking virtual motorsport to a whole new level is Racing Unleashed. The platform brings together professional racing simulators, premium racing lounges and digital competitions such as the Racing Unleashed Esports Series.

Launched by Racing Unleashed, the series brings together three championships with a clear objective: to discover and nurture talent. The competition, now an established fixture on the international sim-racing calendar, is divided into three classes: RU1 for elite drivers, RU2 for up-and-coming talent and RU3 for newcomers to the professional league. The next races in classes RU1 and RU2 on 20 September on the virtual Nürburgring circuit will be held live in the RU Lounges; the races can also be followed via live streams.

In total, there are seven lounges across Europe: five of them in Switzerland – in Zurich, Cham, Affoltern am Albis and Meierskappel – one in Madrid and the lounge at Motorworld Munich. Amidst iconic modern classics, modern supercars and the event venue itself, twelve high-end simulators are waiting to be driven.

But there’s no race without simulators. Which brings us back to Maranello, where fully-fledged racing machines are crafted by hand. Racing Unleashed offers three categories:

Formula Simulator
The Formula 1 simulator was built for the premier class: carbon fibre monocoque, motion platform, high-end force-feedback hydraulic racing pedals. Every component of this simulator has been designed to recreate the sensation of driving a real Formula 1 car.
GT Simulator
The GT Simulator has been specially developed for the world of GT racing: for adrenaline. For power. For precision. The Technik-Motion platform, hydraulic pedals and a racing steering wheel with razor-sharp feedback ensure an authentic driving experience.
Custom simulators
Racing Unleashed develops racing machines not only for itself, but also for brands with racing DNA. One such example is McLaren. The simulator, featuring a motion platform, immersive feedback and the brand’s signature precision, demonstrates just what is possible in this field.

It also impressed singer Adele, who tested the simulator in Woking, England, in July alongside her son. Instructions were provided by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, Formula 1 drivers from the McLaren team.
