Racing in Colour

To mark the conclusion of the Formula E season in the 75th anniversary year of Porsche Motorsport, Porsche will be competing in London with a special livery. The two Porsche 99X Electric cars driven by Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller will feature a white-and-blue retro livery in the Rothmans style, reminiscent of successful Porsche racing cars from the 1980s. These include the Porsche 959, which won the 1986 Paris–Dakar Rally. And the two white-and-blue Group C sports prototypes, the 956 and 962C, each secured overall victory twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A real eye-catcher: This racing car is truly one of a kind. The 917/20 Coupé was the only example ever built combining elements of both the short and long versions. Although it retired from the 1971 Le Mans race, it still went on to become famous. Porsche Style devised a pink livery and visually ‘carved up’ the car’s parts in the style of a butcher, earning it the nickname ‘Die Sau’. This crowd favourite recently made a comeback: at the Formula E race in Berlin, works drivers Padcal Wehrlein and Nico Müller drove straight onto the podium in the ‘Die Sau’ livery.

A true Hollywood star: the 917 KH sporting the livery of the oil company Gulf. Although the three cars entered at Le Mans in 1970 were forced to retire early that year, they went on to enjoy a successful career: Hollywood star Steve McQueen, in the role of Michael Delaney, drove the racing car with its striking orange centre stripe on a light blue background in the film ‘Le Mans’. And this is regarded as one of the finest portrayals of motorsport in history – to this day.
