Anyone visiting the ESO Supernova Planetarium and Visitor Centre in Garching near Munich between 8 and 12 July is in for a journey through time: IWC Schaffhausen is presenting the exhibition “A Journey Through Time: Precision, Aviation and Space” there, celebrating 90 years of pilot’s watches – starlit skies included.

The chronicle begins right at the entrance: the first IWC Pilot’s Watch from 1936, alongside the Mark XI, which served in the cockpits of the Royal Air Force for 32 years, and the current Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Le Petit Prince. Here, in the exhibition “A Journey Through Time: Precision, Aviation and Space” by IWC Schaffhausen at the ESO Supernova Planetarium and Visitor Centre in Garching near Munich, historical exhibits meet modern displays. Each display case illustrates the close link between aerial navigation and reliable timekeeping on the wrist.

The further you walk through the exhibition, the higher you go. One module is modelled on the design of the “Haven-1” space station by Vast, the partner company with which IWC has already been involved in the Inspiration 4 and Polaris Dawn manned missions.

Also on display is the IWC Pilot’s Venturer Vertical Drive, the brand’s latest watch, which has passed all the test criteria for use on board the Haven-1 and has been officially certified for space use by Vast.

What else is in store? You can find out for yourself – live and in person. You’ll have the chance to do so from Wednesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00.
