Set directly on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, fashion designer Christian Louboutin has opened the Vermelho Hotel – an elegant hideaway where Portuguese craftsmanship meets his personal aesthetic. And of course, the color red plays a role.

First things first: the name Vermelho is Portuguese and means “red.” Christian Louboutin’s signature color, usually found on shoe soles, also takes center stage here. It comes alive in the details, the intentions, and the emotions of this luxurious hideaway.

With only thirteen uniquely designed rooms, the hotel in the village of Melides is a relaxed and intimate retreat – conceived as a small boutique hotel rather than a resort. Courtyards, gardens, and shared spaces invite guests to interact – if they wish.

By day, a relaxed bistro atmosphere; by night, candlelit dining. The hotel’s own restaurant, Xtian, invites guests to savor local and traditional Portuguese cuisine. Take it a step further at the hotel bar – an extravagant hammered-silver centerpiece serving delicious cocktails and snacks.
