Let’s start with the name. ‘Avatar’ comes from Sanskrit and roughly means ‘descent’: the descent of a deity into the earthly world, its embodiment in visible form. Today, we know avatars primarily as digital representatives, controlled by people or by software. And then there are those blue-skinned fantasy creatures with pointed ears, who, thanks to Hollywood’s ‘Avatar’ film series, are taking the planet Pandora by storm in 3D technology. The Chinese car brand AVATR, however, keeps things quite simply divine when it comes to the origin of its name. No more, no less. The latest incarnation of what’s making its way over to us from the Far East is called the Concept T09 and, as the flagship model, is intended to translate the idea of prestige into a form never seen before.
So much for the starting point. In putting this into practice, AVATR’s chief designer Nader Faghihzadeh – formerly an exterior designer at BMW – has expanded the ‘Emotive Luxury’ design philosophy to include a further design language. ‘More feeling rather than more showing’ is how he describes the approach: ‘Beauty establishes the connection; the experience gives it meaning.” Whilst the 06, 07, 11 and 12 models, as well as the new 06T and 07L, form the sporty and dynamic “Casual Luxury Pole”, the luxury SUV Concept T09 brings prestige to life: in the way you arrive, the way you move through the day, and in the space you share with others.
