And so the new menswear collection, too, constantly navigates between supposed opposites. Precise, yet not stiff. Generous, yet not haphazard. Urban, with a distinct longing to escape southwards.
Or to put it another way: dressed, without looking dressed.
And that, as we all know, is one of the trickiest feats of all.
The journey begins rather neatly in the city. Loose-fitting suits, leather jackets, shirts, coats. The silhouettes have structure, yet are given room to breathe. Trousers have a generous drape, blazers lose their business-like rigour, and at some point, sandals even make an appearance amidst it all. A rather nice indication that nobody is planning to go back to the office after lunch.
The further one’s thoughts drift towards the Mediterranean, the more relaxed the rules become. Knitwear becomes sleeveless, shirts are unbuttoned a few more buttons, and silhouettes become more generous. Washed linen, lightweight silk and textured cotton meet flowing fabrics; tone-on-tone jacquards, woven effects, knits and stripes ensure that the collection retains sufficient depth despite all its summery lightness.
Materials, then, that not only aim to look good, but also clearly take issue with the notion that summer fashion must inevitably consist of a T-shirt plus something else.
Very appealing.
