A Man and his Watch

Nic von Rupp x TUDOR

Nic von Rupp is one of the best big wave surfers in the world. The 34-year-old regularly conquers the biggest and most dangerous waves - in Nazaré in Portugal, in Jaws in Hawaii or in Mavericks in California. Always on the extreme athlete's wrist: the TUDOR Pelagos, which von Rupp appreciates for its robustness and design. Since last year, the surfer has also been a brand ambassador for the watch brand.

Nic von Rupp was born in Portugal to a Swiss mother and a German-American father. He started surfing at the age of nine, found his first sponsors at 13 and won the title of “European Surfer of the Year” in 2013. Shortly afterwards, he started big wave surfing, riding waves over six meters. In November 2023, he conquered a 27-metre wave in Nazaré, and in February 2025 an even bigger one - the biggest wave of his career. So far.

Although fear is always present, as von Rupp says, he has never let it control him. On the contrary, fear has always been a driving force to push himself. “Born to Dare” - the motto of the Swiss watch brand - also seems to have become Nic von Rupp's motto.

“Many people think that we are not afraid when they see us on these gigantic waves. But that's not true. I'm very scared.”
