TUDOR Shows Its True Colours: the Black Bay "Bumblebee"

Most luxury watch manufacturers play it safe. TUDOR does not. The new Black Bay Chrono 39 "Bumblebee" has a bright yellow dial, shrinks to 39 mm and does exactly what good design objects should do: stand out without being loud. Underneath the eye-catching look is still some serious technology - the manufacture calibre MT5813 with column wheel, vertical clutch and 70-hour power reserve.

Tudor knows yellow. The brand's first chronograph, the Oysterdate, wore bright colours back in the 1970s - and there was also a yellow "Tiger" in the 1990s. The Bumblebee continues this tradition. Consistently.

The case has shrunk to 39 mm compared to its predecessor, is only 13.1 mm high - and wears accordingly. The "snowflake" hands have also been redesigned to make the totalisers easier to read. The pushers have a revised knurled pattern - "MK2", say connoisseurs. A three-row steel bracelet with a Tudor "T-fit" clasp and quick-adjustment system completes the watch.

The MT5813 calibre is the result of a long-term collaboration with Breitling - derived from the B01 calibre, with Tudor's own regulating organ and exclusive surfaces. It is COSC-certified anyway. However, Tudor sets the bar higher internally: where the institute tolerates -4 to +6 seconds a day, Tudor only accepts -2 to +4. And it goes without saying that the Bumblebee is water-resistant up to 200 metres for a chronograph in the Black Bay line.

"Will the Bumblebee save the world?" asks Tudor itself. Maybe not. But it reliably saves the wrist from the ordinary.
