Art & Cars

Watching art while surrounded by cars? You can do this at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

The "Now on View" exhibition series from the company's own art collection Mercedes-Benz Art Collection is entering the next round there: 30 newly curated works will be integrated into the permanent exhibition until autumn 2027.

A visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum is always worthwhile - and since 11 November, twice as much. Because the "Now on View" presentation series is entering the next round: since 2024, the Museum has regularly surprised visitors with changing works from the company's own art collection Mercedes-Benz Art Collection.

The historical and contemporary automotive exhibits are now joined by 30 newly curated works of art from over 40 years of the collection's history. On display are works from 1948 to the present day by 22 internationally renowned artists. In paintings, photographs and video art, they explore the connection between art and nature, social discourses and formal aesthetic issues.

Some of the works fit into the individual themed rooms of the Mercedes-Benz Museum: Room Collection 3 "Gallery of Helpers", for example, focuses on emergency vehicles used to rescue and care for people. This is why the bright blue bench by Finnegan Shannon has also found its way into this room: With the printed phrase "I'd like to linger here. Rest here if you agree." Shannon draws attention to the needs of people with limited mobility and highlights the lack of accessibility.

The themes of the "Now on View" works at the Mercedes-Benz Museum

The 30 works delve into various thematic worlds: Emilio Chapela, José Heerkens and Maximilian Prüfer deal with the relationship between man, art and nature. Sung Tieu, Selma Selman and Paulo Nazareth explore their family roots and cultural identity, while Florina Leinß, Gerold Miller and Simone Westerwinter devote themselves to formal-aesthetic considerations in dialogue with the legacy of Concrete Art and Minimal Art.

Guided tours of "Now on View"
From 23 November 2025, there will be a monthly family tour for adults, young people and children. After the tour, children will have the opportunity to get creative in the CAMPUS learning centre on level 0.

The Mercedes-Benz Art Collection

Founded in 1977, the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection comprises around 3,000 works by over 800 artists - including Cao Fei, Keith Haring, Alicja Kwade, Charlotte Posenenske, Oskar Schlemmer, Franz Erhard Walther and Andy Warhol. The Art Collection focuses on abstract-constructive pictorial concepts, critically engaged art as well as representative works and commissioned works on themes such as automobility, design or construction.
