Berlin Art Week

It’s going to be a week full of art

From this coming Wednesday, 9 September, Berlin will be transformed into a single exhibition space until Sunday, 13 September. More than 100 museums, galleries and project spaces will open their doors for Berlin Art Week. Right at the heart of it all: JMES WORLD by Madelyn Deville and Manfred Michel, which in an interview have already presented their community platform. Here you can read their tips for Berlin Art Week. These include the official closing party at the JMES Club in the Factory in Berlin Mitte. The fitting title: “Dream on”.

For five days, the city belongs to art. Institutions such as the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Hamburger Bahnhof, the KW Institute of Contemporary Art and the Gropius Bau are opening their doors, alongside countless galleries and project spaces across the city. JMES WORLD is, of course, taking part too. What’s more, Madelyn Deville and Manfred Michel, the creative minds behind this community platform, have given us a few tips on what you shouldn’t miss at Berlin Art Week.

POSITIONS Art Fair
The POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair has been an official partner and the sole art fair of Berlin Art Week since 2014. The 13th edition will take place from 10 to 13 September in Hangars 5 and 6 at Tempelhof Airport. 96 international galleries from 20 countries will be showcasing their key works in modern and contemporary art, with a special focus this year on galleries from Turkey. The programme also includes special exhibitions, award ceremonies, talks and the Berlin Art Week Collectors’ Dinner.

CUPRA Artist Talk:
Democracy of Art
Art and democracy? They go hand in hand. That’s what the CUPRA Artist Talk on Thursday 10 September at 7 pm is all about. Guests at the CUPRA CITY GARAGE at Aaron-Bernstein-Platz 1 will include Sascha Ehlert from DAS WETTER, Madelyn Deville and Manfred Michel from JMES WORLD, and the artist Alieu Sawaneh. They’ll be discussing questions such as: Who is allowed to enter the art world? Who is seen, heard and collected? And who actually decides what culture looks like? The discussion will be moderated by Sevil Uguz. And afterwards, it’s time to celebrate. Art. Democracy. And ourselves, of course.
Le Black Sofa
The sculptor Wolfgang Flad transforms recycled materials into new forms, thereby creating unexpected associations and connections between art and nature. His sculptures seem to float in space like drawings, thus creating a dialogue between the material and the empty space they occupy. On Wednesday 9 September, you can experience the artist in conversation from 7 pm onwards, when he will be a guest in the ‘Le Black Sofa’ series at the SUPERMARQUE Concept Store at 14 Besselstraße. Please register in advance via Instagram at @supermarque.official or by email to hello@supermarque.com.
Gallery Night
As part of Berlin Art Week, Gallery Weekend Berlin is also hosting Gallery Night. On Thursday 10 September, from 6 pm to 10 pm, 54 galleries will open their doors to new exhibitions, ranging from established galleries to newer initiatives. From Friday to Sunday, 11 to 13 September, the galleries will then be open daily from 12 noon to 6 pm. If you’d like to see the full list of participating galleries and artists, you’ll find it here:

The Closing Party
Nowadays, artificial intelligence generates images, composes music and writes texts. But one thing remains irreplaceable: human creativity. This is precisely what JMES WORLD is celebrating with DREAM ON, the official closing party of Berlin Art Week, on Saturday 12 September at the JMES CLUB in Factory Berlin Mitte. The evening kicks off with the opening of an exhibition, featuring works by artists including Isyah Asher, Angelina Linnenschmidt and Oleksii Gnievyshev. Live performances will follow from 6 pm, and the party gets underway at 10 pm – with no set end time.

→ Tickets are limited.
Tickets are available here.

Of course, there is much more to experience at Berlin Art Week. You can find the full programme for the event, including all participating museums, galleries, clubs and institutions, as well as useful information on opening times, tickets and anything else you might need to know before visiting, at
