Andy Warhol:
Serial Portraits

Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo presents “Andy Warhol – Serial Portraits”, a fascinating selection of works by the Pop Art master — featuring, above all, rarely exhibited drawings and Polaroids. The exhibition is part of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Hors-les-Murs program, which brings previously unseen treasures from the collection to Tokyo, Munich, Venice, Beijing, Seoul, and Osaka.

At the heart of the exhibition is Warhol’s lifelong exploration of identity and self-presentation. From an early age, he collected newspaper clippings of famous personalities, experimented with costumes, and created numerous self-portraits that continually redefined his image. Whether through photo-booth self-portraits, in-drag Polaroids, or drawings from the 1950s, Warhol’s work reveals how he staged his own image — and in doing so, crafted a collective portrait of his time.

From the ballpoint-pen sketches of young men in the 1950s to the renowned “Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century” from the 1980s, and the photo-booth self-portraits featuring the tousled “Fright Wig” — the exhibition spans Warhol’s entire career and his ongoing quest for new techniques and forms of expression.

Behind dark sunglasses, in silkscreen prints, and through experimental photography, Warhol once again demonstrates his unparalleled talent for adaptation, innovation, and self-representation.

The exhibition is on view from October 2, 2025, to February 15, 2026.
