Time for lightweight: Chopard Zagato Lab One Concept

Watchmaking artistry meets innovation: with the Zagato Lab One Concept, Chopard is transferring principles from motorsport to haute horlogerie - together with the famous Italian coachbuilder Zagato.

Motorsport has always been a driver of innovation. Even beyond the boundaries of the automotive industry. Need proof? Here you can see the Zagato Lab One Concept by Chopard and Zagato. It is the third joint watch from the two giants and weighs just 43.20 grams including the bracelet and only 36.5 grams without it. This makes it the lightest titanium watch that Chopard has ever produced.

The 42 millimetre case is made from ceramicised titanium. The material, which is treated using an electroplasma process, achieves a hardness of around 1000 Vickers (this is a hardness unit used in materials testing) and combines high scratch and impact resistance with low weight. The design is characterised by the open tubular frame construction, derived from racing car construction. It supports the movement, distributes mechanical loads and replaces classic horns with swivelling brackets with up to 45 degrees of movement.

The hand-wound calibre L.U.C 04.04-L with 207 components is at work inside. It beats at 4 hertz, offers a 60-hour power reserve and is certified as a chronometer. At the centre is a 60-second tourbillon with a Variner® balance. The bridges and main plate are also made of ceramised titanium. The power reserve indicator is designed like a fuel gauge - a functional quote from automotive engineering.
