The grande dame of Pontresina

Ice swimming in Lake St. Moritz? Only for the very brave. If you still want to venture into the ice-cold water at the beginning of March, it's best to do so organised by the Hotel Kronenhof Pontresina – and then look forward to relaxing between modern luxury and the magic of times gone by.

The Alps are enveloped in glistening white, the air is as clear and pure as it can only be in the mountains. In the middle of this idyll lies the frozen Lake St. Moritz. At temperatures of around zero degrees, guests at the Hotel Kronenhof demand everything of their body and mind while ice swimming. In the knowledge: Their courage is rewarded with afternoon tea in the hotel's relaxed bar.

The neo-baroque building from 1848 is one of the most architecturally significant Alpine hotels from the Belle Époque and is one of the best listed luxury and wellness hotels in the world. The historic architecture, light-flooded rooms and suites and an impressive spa do the rest and make the Grand Hotel in the mountaineering village of Pontresina a desirable hideaway in the Engadin.

Rooms and suites
112 elegant rooms and suites offer modern comfort in a grand hotel atmosphere. The Engiadina Suite, for example, offers a breathtaking view of the Roseg Glacier and the St. Moritz mountain range. Warm earthy colours and wood create a feel-good atmosphere.
Wellness
Here you can really unwind and relax your body on over 2000 square metres. The various saunas, fitness areas and massage treatments are an excellent way to do this. If you want something exclusive, book into the Private Spa Suite - two hours in the jacuzzi, steam bath, body scrub and champagne included. Also attractive: the day spa offer for external guests.
Culinary delights
Three in-house restaurants cater for the physical well-being of guests: the Grand Restaurant, the Kornenstübli and Le Pavillon combine international creations with Swiss and Grisons specialities. Whether it's an aperitif, a nightcap or a fine cigar - the Kronenhof Bar, Lobby Lounge and cosy Fumoir provide the best entertainment. The hotel also offers other special places: The rustic, historic wine cellar, for example, the bowling alley – which can also be booked by external guests – and the Gredig Stübli, a genuine Engadine parlour with room for 6 to 10 people.
