Tom Ford shoots
"Cry To Heaven"

After a long break, Tom Ford returns with the film adaptation of Anne Rice's novel "Cry to Heaven". An opulent drama set against the backdrop of 18th century Italian opera - with a cast that impresses film critics and music fans alike: superstar Adele makes her unexpected acting debut alongside Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult.

Tom Ford, an artist who seeks and, yes, finds the sensual in both material and image, finally completes the formal transition from design oracle to serious auteur filmmaker with his third feature film. Almost a decade after the acclaimed thriller Nocturnal Animals and the Oscar contender A Single Man (with a brilliant Colin Firth), the director delves deep into the decadence of the 18th century: he adapts Anne Rice's novel "Cry to Heaven" and helps superstar Adele make her acting debut.

The project, which Ford is financing himself in a triple role as screenwriter, director and producer, promises the visual perfection for which Ford is known (and which his work as costume designer for James Bond has already brought to the screen). In terms of content, the film is dedicated to the complex fate of two protagonists - a Venetian nobleman and a peasant boy - who were both castrated in order to preserve their extraordinary soprano voices for the opera. Their intertwined lives shed light on the dark driving forces of ambition, revenge and sacrifice in the name of art.

The biggest surprise, however, is the ensemble: in addition to Ford regulars such as Nicholas Hoult and Colin Firth, the film also features singer Adele, who has just been released from her Las Vegas residency and is celebrating her film debut.

Adele's unforeseen foray into the acting world, complemented by stars such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Hunter Schafer, makes Cry to Heaven one of the most anticipated film events of late autumn 2026 even before filming begins (January 2026 in London and Rome).

A colleague once introduced Matthias Mederer to a new intern like this: “This is Matze. He's never actually here, but he gets paid full salary.” At least he has a good excuse: he's been hunting stories for ramp.space for over ten years – in words and pictures. And all over the world. His style: cinematic, carried by a keen sense of narrative dramaturgy that can only be found on the road.
