Dior reinterprets classics: the Maison's new bag collection features the covers of classic novels from the 19th and 20th centuries – an elegant homage to literary Paris – perfectly captured on the banks of the Seine.

The basics first: a tote bag is so called because the English word "to tote" means heavy to carry – making it the ideal companion for transporting heavy things, like books.

Jonathan Anderson, creative director of the Maison, is now going one step further and gives the legendary Dior tote bag a new interpretation. The Book Cover Totes are a tribute to the joy of reading: They bear embroideries of the first editions of classic novels from the 19th and 20th centuries – from James Joyce's "Ulysses", Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and Gustave Flaubert's "Madame Bovary".

Photographer Angèle Châtenet stages Parisian haute couture and the city's literary heritage against the perfect backdrop: she shoots various authors, booksellers and literary fans with the collection in front of the classic bouquinist stalls on the banks of the Seine of the Seine – the traditional green book stalls of French antiquarian booksellers
